Welcome to FPCT
Step into our story - a journey back to 1859 when FPCT took root in the heart of Southern Ocean County. Embrace our spirit, feel our warmth, and become a part of our treasured community.
The First Presbyterian Church of Tuckerton was organized on January 30, 1859, by the Reverend Samuel Miller, D.D., and the Reverend Allen H. Brown. The present church building was constructed in 1861.
Membership has ranged from a low of 10 in the year of the church’s creation,1861, to a high of 300 under Rev. Reed and Rev. Gilchrist (1993-1997). Our church has been an anchor to our congregation through the Civil War, two World Wars, the Great Depression, Korean War and Vietnam. It has sustained folks through Spanish Influenza, the polio outbreak of the 1950s, and most recently, COVID. It has survived schisms brought on by internal struggles and cultural shifts.
Our recent history has had a profound effect on the church and its members. In October 16, 2005, we warmly welcomed our called Pastor Merideth Susan Mueller. It is notable that Reverend Mueller was the first female pastor of our church, serving as our pastor for nine years.
In 2009, we joyfully celebrated our 150th anniversary. We enjoyed several special events, dinners, and worship services, as well as a church picnic on church grounds. Many of our current programs and assets to the church were established under her watch. Rev. Mueller’s final contribution was when she led our church’s helping ministry to our members and thousands of residents in the communities of Little Egg Harbor and Tuckerton who were devastated by the harmful impact of Super Storm Sandy, a massive hurricane. Rev. Mueller left our church in June of 2014.
In March of 2015, we welcomed Rev. Kathleen Jamhoury as our Interim Pastor. In fall of 2016, Rev. Anthony Maimone was installed as our pastor. He remained with us for about two years. At that point, he felt called to a mission as a chaplain and resigned. A new pastoral search followed.
In 2021, Rev. Jeanie Collins became our part-time pastor under a trial arrangement with a three-year contract. In May of 2023 she departed for another calling. Since that time, we have been utilizing pulpit supply, seminarians, and lay preachers to fulfill our needs for Sunday services.
Our church has remained strong, instituting programs to improve communications, maintain connections, and continue to serve the community.
